Properly applying a self-tanning product can be time consuming, especially if you spend weeks building up your tan using a gradual self-tanner like St. Tropez bronzing mousse. After putting all that time in, it’s in your best interest to protect your tan so it lasts as long as possible. Here are a few things you can do to help extend the life of your self-tan:
Moisturize often. Most self-tanners, such as the St. Tropez bronzer, add color to the top layers of your skin. As your skin dries and dead skin cells slough off, the color will go with it. So first and foremost, make sure you keep your skin well-moisturized. St. Tropez Body Moisturizer and St. Tropez Tan Optimiser Body Butter are specifically made to keep your skin soft and help make your self-applied tan last.
Stay out of hot water. Be sure to avoid saunas, hot tubs and, unfortunately, long, hot showers, as these all can dry out your skin. Excessive sweating from strenuous exercise or time spent in saunas should also be avoided, as this can cause your tan to fade faster.
Wash carefully. You’ll also want to pass on any harsh body soaps or cleansers, especially anything with sodium laurel sulfate in it. The sodium will dry out your skin quickly and cause skin cells to shed more quickly. Post-shower, never rub your skin with a towel; instead, always gently pat yourself dry.
Re-apply your self-tanner. One of the best ways to keep your color consistent is to re-apply the self-tanner, such as St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse, at least once per week. Don’t forget to gently exfoliate your skin beforehand to make sure you’re applying the St. Tropez bronzer to fresh, soft skin.
